Merseyside’s self proclaimed “Master”, John Liam O’Malley was born on
13th January 1983 at Oldham General Hospital. First Born Son of Daragh & Elaine Liam lived in Oldham until the age of 4 when he moved to the
Wirral, and has lived in Hoylake ever since.
Liam (it’s an Irish family tradition to take your second name) attended Hoylake
Holy Trinity Primary School and Hibre High School eventually moving
on to Liverpool John Moores University in 2001 taking computer studies. |
Liams Scouting Life (and its been a full one!) started as a beaver wearing that lovely grey
tracksuit back in 1990 at 1st Great Meols beaver colony, he moved up into Great Meols
cubs before transferring to his fathers Troop at 2nd West Kirby Sea Scouts.
On departing Scouts Liam helped to form The Phantom VSU which if it only gave the
county one thing, it was the first opportunity for Liam to try out his design Skills working on
the district website for his Service section of the Venture Scout Award. In 1998 Liam was
very fortunate to represent his district at the Chile World Jamboree, an experience he is
adamant he will never forget.
In 2002 Liam was asked to take on the County Website (only 10 pages at the time) a challenge
he greatly accepted, of course at that point he could never have imagined it would
grow to over 300 pages in only 4 years!
With the formation of the new network section Liam once again set to work on a design for
a new visual Identity for the section, and although he can’t claim the pink t-shirt, almost
every logo used by the section today has been designed by him.
In 2004 he re-launched both the County & Network sites and in 2005 Merseyside was singled
out as the best Network site in the country with the inclusion of a network forum &
newly updated sections.
Outside of Network Liam is a Queen’s Scout, who recently was given the honour of carrying
the St Georges Flag at the National Queen’s Scout Parade at Windsor Castle. He is a Sea
Scout Leader in West Kirby & is a member of the Leadership team for the County Contingent
to the World Jamboree this Summer.
Now a very hard person to pin down (this was supposed to be written 3 months ago) he can
sometimes be found Climbing at Awesome walls or sailing around the Lake in West Kirby.
Post script.
Without Liam we wouldn't have the Network we know today, Not only with the website and
design elements of Network but also, and as importantly is his constant support of events
and his contribution to the Network committee. Liam is a valued and key member of Merseyside
Network. Thanks Liam for all your hard work.
