Paul David Jones (PJ), born on 3rd April 1980. Only son of Sam (RIP Jan ’06) and Carol part-time catering assistant. He has one older sister Joanne
and a younger sister Gemma who all grew up in Rock Ferry on the Wirral. PJ
also has a nephew Daniel and is God-Father to Teigan and Joe.
Schooling took place at Rock Ferry Primary and then Rock Ferry High where he walked
away with 9 Grade A-C GCSE’s. This lead to 3 years at Birkenhead 6th Form College
and 3 ‘A’-levels. Following A-levels PJ tried a degree in Theatre Studies at Liverpool
Hope but got bored and went on to work in the real world. He made his part-time
catering assistant job a full time occupation before turning his to being a tour guide
and general dogs-body at the Ellesmere Port Boat Museum. Somehow this led to a
three year diploma in Nursing Studies and now PJ is a trained Nurse working Arrowe
Park Hospital on an acute Gastro-Respiratory medical ward. |
PJ started his Scouting as a Beaver Scout with the 40th Birkenhead and went on to join Cubs there. He
transferred to the 4th Birkenhead Cub Pack when his Mum started to help out there and stayed with the
Group, going through the Pack, Troop and some time in the Venture Unit.
He rose through the leadership ranks at the 4th also, starting as a Pack helper before moving on to Troop
helper and then warranted ASL. He was SL at the Troop for 4 years before having to leave due to work
commitments.
Through Birkenhead District he was a District Scout Leader for a number of years before a recent change of
structure in the District. He is now District Leader (Administration) on the team that manages Beavers, Cubs
and Scouts. He also helps out with Duke of Edinburgh Award on the Wirral and is Quarter Master of the Duke
of Edinburgh stores in Birkenhead. Because of his involvement with D of E, PJ has begun a Mountain Leader's
training course. In the role as DSL, Pj was also heavily involved in the setting up of Birkenhead District
Explorer Scout Section.
On the Scout Network front, PJ was an original member of a local network for Birkenhead which was named
Cerberus. He eventually came to head this unit and opened it up to the whole of the Wirral and renamed it
Wirral Network which he chaired and also helped design the Wirral Network badge which is worn on Wirral
neckers. Through Wirral Network he became heavily involved in Merseyside County Scout Network.
After
turning 25 PJ became and is still an active member of the County Scout Network Support Team and has
recently taken up Lee’s offer of becoming a warranted County Scout Network Leader. PJ is also on a number
of support groups/committees including the Mafikeng2007 UK contingent Exec. PJ is a Queen’s Scout and
Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award holder.
Post script.
PJ now moved to the 25+ and a supporter of Network. He is very dedicated and is now along with other
members an important cog in the Administration and Support team. With your help we can move Network
forward to be a strong successful section. PJ has taken the role of Activity Advisor, and is the main link to
the Wirral Network. My you long be a warranted County Scout Network Member.
