NETWORK NEWS

Network Scouting is growing rapidly and
Adrian Wray aims to keep it that way as
he introduces an image conscious issue
P
erception and image
– just how important
are they to Scout
Network? What effect
does your Network’s image
have on recruitment? Is
perception really nine
tenths of the law? Erm...
hold on, that’s not right...
Anyway, we all know that
Network is fun. At least,
Merseyside Scout Network
certainly do. Merseyside may
not instantly spring to mind
when thinking about fashion,
but recently they’ve clearly
been watching and learning
from the catwalks of Milan
and Paris. In addition to their
usual uniform, Members have
been spotted wearing t-shirts
in the colour of the season
– pink! It’s clearly worked,
as they’ve increased their
membership by over 50 per
cent! To fi nd out more about
what they’ve been up to and
get ‘in sync’ with the Member
enhancing colour of pink,
go to pages six and seven.
The right image for
Network is important and
can have a direct affect
on Membership. If people
perceive Scouting as fun,
cool and exciting, then they
will want to be involved. We
already know how brilliant
Scouting is, but the key is

using eye-catching and
imaginative ways to let
those not involved know all
about it! Merseyside have
taken a simple, light-hearted
approach to stand out, but
of course there are many
ways of doing this. Take a
look at Greater London South
West (pages eight and nine).
They’ve undertaken a service
project in Belarus and gained
lots of positive publicity and
recognition for their efforts.
Why not look at the
image your own Network
conveys? Is it appropriate
to your Network? Is that
image working to increase
people’s awareness of
you and your activities?
Scout Network in the last
12 months has increased its
membership by over five per
cent. Let’s all work together to
keep it growing!
